Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 21, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Keyaways ("Keyaways", "we", "our" or "us") collects, uses and protects information when you use the Keyaways mobile app for iOS and Android and the website at www.keyaways.com (together, the "Service").

The short version: we process the content you give us — the links, documents and videos you import, your highlights and your flashcards — only to provide the Service to you. We never sell your data, never use your content to train AI models, and never use it for advertising.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Account information

When you create an account we collect your email address and, if you choose, a display name. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive the email address and name that provider shares with us. Apple's "Hide My Email" address works normally.

1.2 Your content

To provide the Service we store and process:

  • Links, files (PDF, DOCX, PPTX, ODT) and video links you import, and the key takeaways ("Extracts") generated from them
  • Your highlights, notes, saved items, collections and downloads list
  • Flashcards generated from your reading, and your review history
  • Messages you send in AI chat, and its replies
  • Reading and listening progress, ratings you give, and your learning goals and interests from onboarding

1.3 Device and usage data

We collect limited technical data needed to run and secure the Service: device model, operating system version, app version, language setting, crash reports, and basic events such as which screens are opened. This data is used in aggregate and is not used to profile you for advertising.

1.4 Purchase information

Subscriptions are processed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We receive confirmation of your subscription status and transaction identifiers. We never receive or store your card or payment details.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information only to:

  • Create and maintain your account, and sync your library across your devices
  • Generate Extracts, audio, flashcards and chat replies from the content you provide
  • Personalise recommendations using the goals and interests you choose
  • Schedule spaced-repetition reviews and the reminders you turn on
  • Manage your subscription and free trial, including the reminder before a trial ends
  • Fix bugs, prevent abuse and keep the Service secure
  • Respond to your support requests

What we will never do with your content

Your content is processed solely to provide the Service to you. We will never:

  • Use your content to train AI models — ours or anyone else's
  • Use your content for advertising or marketing
  • Sell, rent or share your content with third parties for their own purposes
  • Read your content for any purpose other than delivering the Service, except where you ask us to for a support request or where the law requires it

3. AI Processing

To extract key takeaways, answer chat questions, translate and generate flashcards, the relevant text you submit is sent to third-party AI model providers for real-time processing. These providers process it only to return a result to us, under agreements that prohibit them from using it to train their models or keeping it longer than necessary to provide the result.

AI-generated takeaways can be incomplete or wrong. Always check important information against the original source, which each Extract links back to.

4. How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal data. We share information only with service providers that help us run the Service, only to the extent they need it, and under contracts that require them to protect it:

  • Cloud hosting and storage — Amazon Web Services (United States)
  • AI model providers — to process content you submit, as described in section 3
  • Sign-in — Apple and Google, if you choose to sign in with them
  • Payments — Apple App Store and Google Play, for subscriptions
  • Attribution — AppsFlyer, to understand which campaigns and pages lead to app installs. It does not receive your content
  • Crash reporting and aggregated analytics — to find and fix problems

Legal requests

We may disclose information if required by law or a valid legal request, or to protect the rights, safety and security of our users and the Service. Where the law allows, we will tell you first.

5. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on servers in the United States. Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest (AES-256), and access is limited to the people who need it to operate the Service. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your data and will notify you and the relevant authorities of any breach as the law requires.

6. Data Retention and Deletion

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. You can delete individual Extracts, highlights, flashcards and chats at any time in the app.

You can delete your whole account in the app (Settings → Account → Delete account) or by emailing support@keyaways.com. We delete your account and content within 30 days. We keep purchase records only as long as tax and accounting law requires, and may keep aggregated statistics that cannot identify you. Full instructions are at www.keyaways.com/delete-account.

7. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate data
  • Delete your data and account
  • Receive a copy of your data in a portable format
  • Object to or restrict certain processing, and withdraw consent
  • Opt out of marketing emails and push notifications at any time

How to exercise them

Email support@keyaways.com from the address linked to your account. We respond within 30 days. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

8. Children's Privacy

Keyaways is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

9. Cookies on Our Website

The website does not use advertising cookies. When download links are active, the AppsFlyer script may set a first-party cookie to attribute an app install to the page you came from. You can block cookies in your browser settings; the website will still work.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will change the "Last updated" date above and, for significant changes, notify you in the app or by email before they take effect.
